Flynn's Spectacular Strength Goal

Over the last 6 months Flynn has been cooking his way through the alphabet.  He has made a recipe for each letter of the alphabet and is going to publish the recipes into a book.  Today he brought his 'Xceptional Xmas Gingerbread House' to share with us.  What an amazing job Flynn!!! He took it around the school to share.  Congratulations on all your hard work, we can't wait to see the recipe book.

International Day

What a fabulous day we had today during International Day.  We learnt about our own country and completed some activities, there were lunchtime events such as gumboot throwing and we had a whole school assembly to welcome the Japanese students and parade our costumes.  Look at these fabulous people who dressed up from room 10.

Cross Country

We had a bit of a soggy time at the Cross Country but that didn't stop Room 10 trying their best!  Well done to everyone who completed the course.  Congratulations to Archie who won the Year 3 boys race, Lucy who came 3rd in the Year 3 girls race, Tarrah who came 5th in the Year 3 girls race, and Mark who came 6th in the Year 4 boys race.  Top effort!

Marae visit

Room 9, 10 and 11 visited Araiteuru Marae on Tuesday. The teachers were so proud of the children's excellent behaviour during the powhiri. A special thanks to the girls who led the waiata - how cool is it when children step up and do what they are good at?!

We had a fantastic day and participated in some fun activities.
The children in the Middle Team now have a much better understanding of what happens on a marae.

The Kindness Elective and Octacan

During Friday Electives, Mrs King and Mrs Spencer focused on Kindness!  As part of this, our Elective asked other children in the school to bring along cans for the Octacan collection. This collection helps out people in our city who are struggling to feed their families.

Eli, Bella, Juniper, Freya and Mrs Spencer took the cans down to the Octagon on Thursday. It was a chilly day but luckily for them, it wasn't raining while they unloaded the car.  The people gathering the cans said they had changed the name to Octavan - all the cans were counted and loaded straight into vans so that they didn't get too wet!

Our school collected 157, according to their count.  Well done George St Normal!

Lucas and his Strength Goal

Lucas presented his poster to Room 10!

Poem Recitals

Last week, all classes in the Middle Team recited their poems in class. From this, we each chose two Year 3 and two Year 4 children to go forward to the semi-finals.

Here are our four Room 10 representatives!

The competition was tough and none of our children got through to the final, which was held yesterday.

We were entertained by some amazing speaking from children with a real stage presence.

Have A Go Day

On Wednesday 6th, all the children from the Middle Team spent the morning at the Edgar Centre at 'Have A Go Day'. This was a wonderful way to experience some winter sports that children might not have tried before.  Have a look at the fun we had at Miniball and Hockey!

Other sports we tried were: Gymnastics, Rippa, Soccer, Netball

A great day was had by all!

I smell baking ...

As part of our learning about Anzac day, we had a go at making Anzac biscuits.  They ranged in size and shape but we all agreed that they tasted delicious!!!

If you want to have a go at home then the recipe we used was:

1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup rolled oats, 3/4 cup of coconut (put into a bowl)
125g butter, 2 Tablespoons of golden syrup (heat on stovetop or in microwave)
1Table spoon of boiling water, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (dissolve soda in water and then add to butter and golden syrup mixture
Add dry ingredients to wet and mix together
Roll into balls and place on baking tray
Bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees.  Yummo!

The Learning Centre

There has been a lot of progress in the new learning centre over the holidays!  Today we were lucky enough to have a walk-through to see how it is looking.  Here we are:

There is something new in our classroom too.  Have you noticed what it is?

Mrs King's Holiday

As the optional extra for homework this week, you have been asked to share what you got up to on your Easter holiday.  I thought I would show you some photos of my trip to Te Papa in Wellington.  There was an amazing Meccano exhibition that I think all of you would have enjoyed seeing.  Do you like Meccano?
